SEBASTIAN ERIKSSON – SWEDEN

IFK Göteberg to Cagliari (2006)

This brilliant left-footed, box-to-box midfielder spent much of his football career (2007 to present) playing for Swedish IFK Göteborg. He did, however, move to Cagliari to play in Italian Serie A in 2011 and played four seasons for the Rossoblu (2011 – 2015).

His transfer in 2011 to the Sardinians was unusual: the team decided to buy him even though he had a serious knee injury. Unfortunately, he subsequently broke his other knee in 2014.

Massimo Cellino, the former owner of the Italian club for 25 years, described Eriksson as one of the strongest but unluckiest players he had ever worked with.

Eriksson was chosen in 2010, 2011 and 2016 to play for the Swedish national team. While playing for the Swedish U19 team in 2006 – 2008, he scored two goals.
